Pop star Jolin Tsai has ended a two-year reign by Jay Chou to become this year's most popular ringtone voice on the mobile phone platforms in China, according to China Mobile, the country's largest mobile phone operator.

Tsai claimed the "best-selling female singer" title at a ceremony held Sunday night by China Mobile in Beijing. The operator's wireless music database has recorded over 30 million paid downloads of Tsai's music since January.

Wilber Pan was the best-selling male singer, but his number came much smaller than Tsai, at over 25 million.

Jolin Tsai retained her title for the third year, although previously she was eclipsed by Jay Chou, the twice "best-selling male singer" winner.

Jay Chou didn't get a single award this year, presumably because he had been focusing on his newly-established acting career. The Taiwan heartthrob has two new films coming out this New Year's season, including "The Treasure Hunter" and "True Legend".

Chou, who was in Beijing promoting "The Treasure Hunter", showed up at the awards ceremony as a performer.

Other honorees at the night include Karen Mok, JJ Lin, Lee-Hom Wang, Han Hong and S.H.E.

China Mobile runs a wireless music club that pools over some 100 million members. The company holds a ceremony annually to honor musicians based on their achievements in paid downloads.
