In Beijing, the shooting has wrapped up for the movie "Tangshan Earthquake." Feng Xiaogan's ambitious project aims to chronicle the catastrophe that razed an entire city some three decades ago.

At the Huairou Movie Production Base, the crew is working on an elaborate scale model to capture the establishing shots.

Photos and footage of rescue efforts were used to re-create the ruins from the night in 1976 when disaster struck the northern Chinese city.

A few months ago, the production crew visited Tangshan. With the aid of explosives, a set constructed in the city's suburbs were laid to waste.

"Tangshan Earthquake" is meant to portray the tenacity and courage of humanity in the face of disasters.

The production is scheduled for worldwide release in July.
