Chinese actress Mei Ting dabbles in stage drama and with her lead in an update of well-known Chinese playwright Zou Jingzhi's masterpiece "I Love Peach Blossoms," or "Wo Ai Taohua" in Chinese.
The actress is busy gearing up for the play's March opening at Beijing's Poly Theater.
The drama creates a story within a story as the present-day actors portraying the ancient figures of a Tang Dynasty drama have an extramarital love affair that mirrors the one they are acting out on stage. The drama has been played out in over 300 times in different versions at home and abroad since its debut in 2003.
In this work produced by the Shanghai Drama Art Center, Mei Ting will join hands with experienced stage actor Ying Zhusheng, while promising young drama director He Nian from Shanghai takes the directing baton.
"I Love Peach Blossom" will premiere in Nanjing and then tours around the country starting Beijing.
