Leaf-carving artist Huang Taisheng has finished his tiger-themed work to celebrate the Lunar New Year, Yangtze Evening Post reports. The picture, carved on a large pine leaf, depicts three tigers crouching in pine woods.

"The tigers belong to a family," Mr. Huang said. "Look at them! How relaxing they are in the pine woods."

The leaf has gone through a complicated procedure to make it suitable for permanent preservation.

Huang, a native of Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, invented leaf-carving more than two decades ago after being inspired by a worm-eaten leaf that resembled a map. Since 1985, he has created more than 3,000 leaf-carving works.

In 1994, his invention entered the Guinness World Records. In 1996, he received recognition from UNESCO.

Huang has carved various types of pictures on leaves, such as landscapes, figures and portraits. His works have been collected by many museums and institutions all over world.
