U.S. actor Charlie Sheen entered a rehabilitation facility after his wife tried to put their lives back following a violent Christmas Day argument, according to Reuter's reports Wednesday.

Charlie Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, made a Christmas emergency call that the actor threatened her with a knife when she said she wanted a divorce. Sheen was charged earlier this month with assaulting and threatening Mueller.

Sheen's publicist on Tuesday called this move "a preventative measure," and the actor's top-rated CBS TV show was temporarily suspended.

CBS and the show's creator said in a statement Tuesday that they "support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment center. We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter."

Mueller has also been in a rehab facility in the Los Angeles area for the past few days.

Sheen and Mueller, married in May 2008, had twin sons in April 2009.

Sheen, famous for his roles in films "Platoon" and "Wall Street," now stars in the sitcom "Two and a Half Men" which has made him one of the highest paid actors on U.S. television.
