Turkish best-known pop star Tarkan Tevetoglu was released from prison here on Monday after being charged with using illicit drugs, the semi-official Anatolia reported.

The report did not give any details about the charge or punishment by local court.

The police detained Tevetoglu on Feb. 26 for using illegal drugs in an operation.

Tevetoglu was born in Germany on Oct. 17, 1972 and grew up in Turkey. He is a World Music award winning German-born Turkish pop singer.

He has released several platinum-selling albums during his career.

The police regularly carry out drug operations in Istanbul since Turkey is a transit point for drugs between the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
