"The Pacific", a ten-part mini-series helmed by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, will debut on HBO Sunday night.

The World War II miniseries tracks the intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines across the vast canvas of the Pacific, and is said to be the successor to the HBO mega-hit, "Band of Brothers".

James Badge Dale plays one of the main characters.

"We did try to make it to honor these men's stories but also to make it as realistic as we could. It was an especially brutal conflict and we didn't want to shy away from that."

Badge Dale says during the shooting process, military advisors were brought in and the actors underwent a 10-day long boot camp.

"I don't know how to describe it. They beat us down. They beat us down. And maybe actors are sensitive people and we break earlier than the rest. The men in the Pacific were broken mentally, physically and spiritually and the main idea of this boot camp was to give us a taste of that."

Badge Dale also points out while "The Pacific" is about World War II, it is relevant today.

"Our show is about price. Sometimes that price is worth paying; sometimes it's not but I believe we've done this show without an agenda and we can leave it to the audience to decide when that price is worth paying and when it's not worth paying. And I think that ties very deeply into the state of world affairs that we're in today."

"The Pacific" will run on consecutive Sundays through May 16.
