The film had just been awarded "Best Asian Film" at the 60th Berlin Film Festival, and the filmmakers never expected another surprise win.

Au Revoir Taipei is a romantic comedy about two strangers. Xiao Kai, played by Jack Yao, who is always thinking of his ex-girlfriend who studied in Paris, indulges in learning French in a bookstore. Xiao Kai attracts the attention of Susie, a store worker, played by Amber Kuo. Xiao Kai makes a deal with a gangster in order to get a ticket to Paris. He doesn't realize that on the night before leaving for Paris, a series of misunderstandings and coincidences will bring him and Susie together. All these things make Xiao Kai realize that happiness is nearby.

Director Arvin Chen says he's more excited about this award than winning in Berlin, because Au Revoir Taipei actually follows the example of French New Wave film - humorous, delightful and romantic.

"I want to give my thanks to the international audiences and juries who show their appreciation for this film and to our unique view of love and affirmation in Taipei. It also proves once again that comedy and romance can definitely go beyond boundaries," director Chen said.

"But above all, I hope that people in Taiwan can also support and enjoy this film!" He added.
