The espionage blockbuster film "The Message" won the Best Film award on Saturday as the 17th Beijing College Student Film Festival closed its curtains.

"The Message", which opened in Chinese cinemas last September, is set during WWII and tells the story of a Japanese spy chief who tries to identify a Chinese agent from a group of rounded-up suspects.

The film was chosen from 39 candidate films that had been screened in universities across Beijing during the month-long festival.

Wang Quan'an won the award for Best Director for his tear-drawing drama "Apart Together". Wang won a Silver Bear award for Best Script for the same film at this year's Berlin International Film Festival.
