The first trailer from the film "Driverless" was released at a press conference in Beijing, May 23, Sohu.com reports.
Directed by Zhang Yang, the urban romantic film "Driverless" is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on July 2.
Chinese Golden Horse best actor winner Liu Ye and drama veteran Chen Jianbin star in the film alongside young Chinese actresses Gao Yuanyuan, Li Xiaoran, Wang Luodan and Ruby Lin.
During the conference, Liu commented on the two lead actresses Gao and Li by employing a concept made famous by Eileen Chang in her novel "Red Rose, White Rose".
He thought Gao, who plays Liu's first love and enjoys a one night stand with him in the film, is like a black rose - due to her cool and proud temperament. As for Li, who plays his wife on screen, Liu casts her as the red rose, full of passion and displaying boyish behaviour.
Asked if his French wife Anais Martane worried about his sex scenes, Liu replied that his wife doesn't mind since he has a sex scene in every drama he's in - even with other men sometimes.
Liu Ye won the best actor award at Taiwan's 38th Golden Horse Awards for his performance as a young gay man in the movie "Lan Yu" in 2001.
Director Zhang stated that this movie is an updated version of his 1997 film "Spicy Love Soup". It deals with several relationship issues, including the infamous seven year itch, reuniting with a first love, one night stands, an old husband with a young wife, and extramarital affairs.
He hopes to present love stories set in our current "materialistic era", and force audiences to consider what the standard is to measure love. Should we be loyal to money, material things or our own hearts?
Zhang is also the director of such movies as "Shower" in 1999 and "Getting Home" in 2007.
