Musicians are following filmmakers and jumping onto the 3-D bandwagon. Taiwan pop-rock band Mayday announced Tuesday that a 3-D film will be made to document their upcoming concert, set for July 24 in Taichung, Stardaily.com.cn reports.

The film, provisionally titled "3DNA Mayday", will mark the first 3-D concert film made in Asia, the band said at a press conference in Taipei. "DNA" is one of the band's hit singles and the name of its 2009 world tour.

"3DNA Mayday" boasts a budget of 100 million new Taiwan dollars (US$3 million). Theatrical release is set for next year.

Mayday was founded in 1997 by vocalist Chen Hsin-Hung (a.k.a. Ashin), guitarists Wen Shang-Yi (Monster) and Shih Chin-Hang (Stone), bassist Tsai Shen-Yen (Masa) and drummer Liu Yen-Ming (Guan You). The band is known for upbeat, catchy songs in Mandarin and Hokkien (Min Nan).

Previous 3-D concert films include the 2008 movie "U2 3D", featuring Irish superband U2 performing during their Vertigo tour in 2006.
