The Chinese horror-adventure film "North Latitude 31 Degrees Videotapes," directed by A Gan and based on a mysterious tape he purchased, will premiere on June 11.
The film follows eight young people on a trip to the Shennongjia Nature Reserve in central China's Hubei Province in search of a savage wild men, or hairy barbarians. A videotape was later found which recorded the ugly outcomes of the eight young adventurers.
Director A Gan bought the actual 30 tapes when he visited the locale. It was later edited and used as the main part of the film. It shows the real environment and mysteries of Shennongjia.
The Shennongjia Nature Reserve is famous for stories about the wild men.
"We hope some audience will recognize the people recorded in the tape and unveil some of the mysteries," said the film's anonymous producer. "There was one time when we woke up in the morning and found the trees around us had disappeared and a strange sign was left behind. We can't explain it, but we hope audience can."
The producer refused to unveil if there is indeed a wild man recorded on the tapes.
