Director Chan brought his whole cast - except Shu Qi - to the premiere.

In the film, Aaron Kwok plays a clown who accidentally breathes poison gas and changes into a super-powered mutant.

Kwok said at the premiere that his role was a departure from previous ones in hero films or as a super singer on stage.

"I have been trying to challenge myself with a new style of roles because that's what a professional actor would do. Audiences will see a very different Aaron Kwok this time," said the actor.

Same for Zhang Jingchu, who did many action scenes for the first time. She said when director Chan forced her to complete the action scenes all by herself, she realized her potential as an action star.

"I found myself good at these action scenes and I should develop my potential on this. I could be the female version of Ip Man,'' Zhang said at the premiere.

Collin Chou plays the bad guy in "City under Siege". He has appeared in the Hollywood films "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" in 2003.

Aaron Kwok is a two-time best actor winner at the Golden Horse Awards, in 2005 and 2006.

"City under Siege" will open in Chinese cinemas on August 6.
