The outtakes of the hit film "Aftershock" have been released to the public, revealing the twisted fate of the main characters, Sina.com.cn reports.

Since hitting screens on July 22, this blockbuster movie has moved audiences to tears nationwide by telling the story of a Tangshan family destroyed by the massive earthquake of 1976. While receiving widespread approval from moviegoers, some critics have judged it for being incoherent, inaccurate in its chronology and confused in its depiction of the main characters. Some cast members, including Zhang Jingchu and Chen Daoming, also expressed regret for the editing of the film, which they said severely shortened their performances.

In the face of such criticism, director Feng Xiaogang promised to release the deleted clips - and he was true to his word.

The new clips show how the main character Fang Deng (Zhang Jingchu) gave up the chance to meet her family. She was on the train with her adoptive father (Chen Daoming) traveling to see her seriously ill mother. One scene shows Chen giving Zhang her brother's business card but Zhang throws it away after reflecting how, 20 years earlier, she had been deserted by her mother in the earthquake.

Chen Guofu, the executive producer of the film, said it can be very hard for a director to decide which scenes to delete. Unfortunately, it is a necessary evil in order to create the best movie possible.
