Oscar winning actor Mel Gibson's domestic violence case is being reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, according to media reports.

"At 4pm the sheriff's department presented us with the investigation involving Mel Gibson," a spokeswoman said on Wednesday. "That will be reviewed. We do not yet know when there will be any decision on whether to prosecute."

Detectives completed the weeks-long investigation into the case and handed it to the District Attorney to decide on charges. A decision by the Los Angeles prosecutors could take several months.

Gibson, 54, was recorded threatening then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, 40, telling her she "deserved it" when she accused him of punching her twice in the face while she held their now 10-month-old daughter Lucia.
