Li and Lau are scheduled to attend the showing of the film "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame" (Trailer ) at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday (September 5).

The film is the only Chinese-language candidate for the Golden Lion, the Venice Film Festival's top award.

An old resident at the wax museum, Lau's wax figure has been given a special facelift for the occasion or rather, a heart-lift. He now sports a silicon heart that simulates heartbeats.

Li's figure has been made based on her appearance at the 2007 Huabiao Film Awards in Beijing, where she was named best actress.

The costumes worn by the two stars in "Detective Dee" are also on display next to their wax figures.

In the suspense-cum-action film, Lau is the title character who investigates a series of mysterious deaths set in the ancient Tang Dynasty. Li plays Shangguan Jing'er, a fictional account of the life of Shangguan Wan'er, a prestigious politician.

The film is directed by Tsui Hark and also features Carina Lau, Deng Chao and Tony Leung Ka-Fai.

The winner of the Golden Lion will be announced on September 11.

"Detective Dee" opens in Chinese cinemas on September 29.
