Orange Isle, Changsha, Hunan

Beginning on Mid-Autumn Day, the three-day festival in Changsha is a mix of rock, folk and electronic music.

Chinese folk singer Lao Lang, who was popular in the 1990s and today's Wan Xiaoli will both hit the stage while mainland rockers Tang Dynasty and Mavis Fan from Taiwan will play both classic and new hits. Muma & Third Party and Yufeimen add to the electronic component of the event.

"I can't help but imagine a picture of music lovers partying under the moonlight in Orange Isle on Mid-Autumn Day with pure joy and excitement. It adds romance and love to our festival," said organizer Zhang Rongmei.

Orange Isle will also include sections for photography, extreme sports and graffiti. "We want people to forget about their jobs, mortgages, traffic jams and all the unpleasant things and just enjoy music and other forms of popular art," Zhang said.

Snow Mountain, Lijiang, Yunnan

Set against the beautiful natural landscape of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijiang, Snow Mountain Music Festival has been a favorite among music fans since it began in 2002.

Organised by the godfather of Chinese rock Cui Jian and taking place from October 3-5, more than 70 performers are on the bill including well-known folk singers Lao Lang, Yi Xiaojuan and Lin Yifeng. Lesser-known folk singers from ethic minorities such as Haya from the Mongolian minority and He Jinhua from the Naxi minority will also take to the stage.

"We want to give a platform for famous folk singers as well as those less known. If we don't give them a chance, their precious folk music will die out eventually," said festival organizer Li Fan.

Snow Mountain has also organized exhibitions for installations, photography, documentaries and visual arts as well as a small stage for theater and modern dance.
