The added value of the culture industry in 2009 alone touched 840 billion yuan ($126.84 billion). He concluded that after completion of the 11th Five Year Plan, this sector has grown to become a pillar industry of China.

Taditional industry segments like the performance market and film market have kept up a healthy and consistent development pace, while emerging segments like animation and multimedia have added to variety in the industry.
