Academy Award winner Robert Duvall sank his hands and feet in the forecourt outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre in downtown Wednesday, cementing his acting achievement in one of the longest-running traditions on the premise.
The ceremony was held to mark both his 80th birthday and his roughly 50 years in the film business.
"I am putting my foot in it on my birthday, actually, 'cause today is my birthday," he said. "And it's my wife's birthday too."
Duvall, who was known as one of the great naturalistic American screen actors in the mode of Spencer Tracy and his frequent co-star Marlon Brando, won an Academy Award for his role in "Tender Mercies." This is his only win.
The veteran actor was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in "Get Low" as a backwoods hermit with a checkered past who throws a funeral for himself while he is still alive.
His other film credits include "The Godfather," "Apocalypse Now," "The Great Santini," "A Civil Action" and "The Apostle."
"Godfather" co-star James Caan, Andy Garcia, Billy Bob Thornton, "Crazy Heart" writer/director Scott Cooper and "Get Low" producer Dean Zanuck joined Duvall for the event.
Since the theater opened in the 1920, more than 170 superstars have left their prints in the forecourt in honor of their achievements.
