New photos from the film "The Lady Generals of the Yang Family" show Cecilia Cheung's version of the legendary heroine Mu Guiying as a bride holding a dagger.
These photos depict a scene in which the valiant Mu Guiying forces general Yang Zongbao to marry her. Richie Ren plays Yang Zongbao.
"Lady Generals", in Chinese "Yang Men Nv Jiang Zhi Jun Ling Ru Shan", is inspired by the ancient saga of a large family in which widows followed their husbands' steps into the battlefield. Mu Guiying was the most famous one among the lady generals of the Yang family.
Mu Guiying, a frequent subject of Chinese opera, is usually portrayed as full of courage and wit.
"Lady Generals" is one of actress Cecilia Cheung's comeback movies after she gave birth to her second son last May.
The female-dominated film also stars Cheng Pei-Pei, Kathy Chow and Liu Xiaoqing.
Frankie Chan directs the film, with action star Jackie Chan as executive producer.
Filming is still underway.
