Classic opera songs heard in Beijing

Zhang Liping, China's first soprano to perform at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, 2004, in the lead role of Madame Butterfly, will give a solo performance in Beijing. Besides classic opera songs, she will sing selections from the opera Xishi, in which Zhang played the lead at the premiere in 2009.

Zhang studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. After graduating in 1989, she furthered her studies at the Vancouver Academy of Music in Canada. She has taken the title roles in Italian, French and German operas, such as La Traviata, La Boheme and Faust.
