The Chinese play "Red Rose White Rose" has premiered in Singapore to a warm reception.

Produced by National Theater Company of China, the play is adapted from a famous Chinese novel of the same name by Eileen Chang.

The story is focused on the character Tong Zhenbao, who constantly struggles between desires and morals. He loves Red Rose, but he doesn't marry her. He marries White Rose, but he doesn't love her.

The viewers said they enjoyed the play very much. "We like the modern elements that the director put in the play and the whole story is really interesting."

Tian Qinxin, director of the play, says she is quite surprised to see that the overseas audience has shown such enthusiasm.

"I didn't expect that there would be so many viewers. And so many of them wanted to discuss with us after the show! I think it's mainly because of the popularity of Eileen Chang's original novel and the hard working of our excellent performing team."

Singapore is the first overseas destination for the play. The team will move on to other countries and regions later this year.
