Leading Oscar award contender "The King's Speech" was among three films to win honors at the 13th Costume Designers Guild awards Tuesday night.

Jenny Beavan beat designers from other Oscar favorites, "The Fighter" and "True Grit," to win excellence in period film. Amy Westcott, who designed costumes for "Black Swan," was honored for excellence in contemporary film.

Designers of other nominees, including "Burlesque," "Inception," "The Social Network" and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" walked away empty-handed.

In the excellence in fantasy films category, Colleen Atwood was honored for "Alice in Wonderland."

Founded in 1999, the CDG Awards honors costume designers in motion pictures, television and commercials.
