South Korean movie and music stars, who enjoy wide popularity in Japan, rally to help victims of Friday's massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Actor and singer Kim Hyun-joong, who rose to stardom in Japan and elsewhere around Asia thanks to the hit drama "Boys Over Flowers," donated 100 million won, about 90,000 U.S. dollars, to aid Japan.

Actor Bae Yong-joon, who has become one of the most famous South Korean stars in Japan after his role in the 2003 TV drama " Winter Drama," donated 1 billion won to a relief organization in Japan. "I express my condolences to victims of the earthquake and tsunami and their families. I will look for the best way to help," Bae wrote on his official Japanese website.

Actor and singer Ryu Shi-won has announced that he will donate 200 million won and plans to visit Sendai in Japan, one of the worst hit areas.

Other stars Lee Byung-hun and Park Shin-yang also expressed their sympathy for the Japanese people.

Park Joong-hoon, who starred in the South Korean tsunami film " Haeundae," wrote on his Twitter account that the disaster in Japan "is much more horrendous than the movie" and prayed for the victims.
