The Palace Museum held a series of events under the theme of "Museums and Memory" Wednesday in honor of International Museum Day.

The museum invited primary school students to perform and practice characters from Lanting Xu, the most famous calligraphy work by Wang Xizhi, an artist of the East Jin Dynasty (317-420), which also served as a warm-up for a solo exhibition in September featuring Wang's most well-known pieces.

A lecture given by experts to the public about Lanting Xu's cultural background and history was also held at the museum reporting hall.

However, no Q&A session was held for the media, in light of the several scandals that have beset the museum lately.

International Museum Day was initiated by the International Council of Museums in 1977 as a yearly event held every May 18 to raise world awareness on the importance of museums.
