Chen Yifei's oil painting "Upland Wind" from his "Tibet" series was sold at 81.65 million yuan, beating records set by himself and ranking atop prices of all other Chinese oil paintings sold at auction places in the world, artron.net reports.

The late artist favored a Tibetan subject and approached it with a realistic brush to render a rough and pristine tone of Tibetans on his canvas.

The piece of art work once was sold at 2.86 million yuan at the China Guardian 1994 Autumn Auctions, a then record high for Chinese oil paintings.

Other works of Chen also sold well with high prices by collectors.

Chen Yifei was a renowned artist who passed away for gastric hemorrhage at the age of 59 in 2005. Apart from his noticeable art talents, he set up a business empire, including magazines, fashion, film production, a modeling agency and restaurant.
