Hollywood hits Kung Fu Panda 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides have both achieved milestones in the Chinese market, with the former kiddie flick reaching 300 million yuan ($46 million) in nine days and Pirates cresting the same high mark in 11 days. The latter's current box office cume stands at 400 million yuan.

The May 28 premiere and opening weekend of Kung Fu Panda 2 earned 54 million and 100 million yuan, respectively, breaking the records set first by Avatar and later Inception.

Some insiders speculate that the Monday premiere for Avatar likely hurt its opening-day prospects, especially in comparison to the Saturday bow for Panda. Avatar, however, remains the all-time top grosser in Chinese cinematic history, with a total of 1.38 billion yuan.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is expected to hit 400 million yuan soon after the Dragon Boat Festival, according to box-office prognosticators.
