Angelina Jolie wants to visit Syrian refugees in Turkey

Movie star Angelina Jolie wants to visit Syrian refugees in southern Hatay province of Turkey who have fled from Syria and sheltered in camps on the Turkish side of the border.

Jolie, goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), applied to Turkish authorities for permission to visit the Syrian refugee camps in Hatay province in southern Turkey, Turkish Foreign Ministry officials confirmed Xinhua on Wednesday.

The application, made by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, is being assessed, Turkish officials said.

More than 8,500 Syrians have fled to Turkey from the Syrian territory.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will visit the refugee camps in Hatay on Wednesday. Following a phone conversation with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sends his special envoy Hasan Turkmani to Turkey on Wednesday for discussions on latest developments in Syrian unrest.
