The cast and crew of the Albanian film "Maya" met with audiences Wednesday during the ongoing 14th Shanghai International Film Festival.

The film, which showcases Albania's exotic landscape, is an inspirational story about people who pursue dreams. It delves into human nature with a story set in an impoverished Albanian village, where human nature is trampled by poverty and tradition is betrayed by a power struggle.

But according to a report on M1905.com, the film was not well received when it was screened for Chinese moviegoers because of the cultural gap.

Director Pluton Vasi said that while he was not too concerned about winning the top Golden Goblet award at the film festival, he was just happy to be in China.

Film producer Vlollca Dedei said she was confident that people from China, Africa or other parts of the world could empathize with "Maya" and expressed her hope that the Chinese audience would like it.
