The sequel to the 2009 crime thriller "Overheard" will open in cinemas across China on August 18, according to distributor Polybona Films.

"Overheard 2" stars the same cast who starred in the first film, including Louis Koo, Daniel Wu and Lau Ching-wan, but the story is unrelated to the previous film.

According to the details that have been released, Lau Ching-wan plays Law, an influential figure in Hong Kong's stock market, who is involved in a traffic accident. As the investigation continues, police officer Ho (Louis Koo) discovers a man named Cho (Daniel Wu) has been intercepting the stock mogul's phone calls, which in turn leads Ho to uncover a conspiracy.

Alan Mak and Felix Chong, who have co-directed "Overheard", have continued to collaborate for the sequel.

The first "Overheard" film opened to financial success in July 2009, raking in 110 million yuan (US$17 million), making it one of the best-selling Chinese crime thrillers in recent years.
