The most expensive musical ever in Broadway history, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" staged a visual feast on Wednesday night, July 6, presenting audiences with a high flying, action-packed adventure.

The 75-million-U.S.-dollar Spider-Man musical, currently running at Broadway Foxwoods Theater, featured the fictional superhero with beautiful U2's scored music, stunning costumes and dazzling visual effects.

"I think the show is not a typical New York Broadway musical. It's so amazing to see Spider-Man flying over your head in a Broadway theater. Absolutely gorgeous," New Yorker Lisa Wood told Xinhua news agency after watching the show.

Despite a series of blows from critics about injured actors and technical difficulties, repeated delays for the official opening of the production, the show has earned over 1.7 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales so far since its premiere on June 14, placing it as the third most popular musical on Broadway after "Wicked" and "The Lion King".

One of the lead producers of the musical Jeremiah Harris said the show's best selling point is making young people excited to go to the theater and having a show that the whole family can enjoy.

If thousands of young people enjoy the musical, he said, "We will have accomplished something that has rarely been done on Broadway and will help create an audience for generations to come."
