Chinese director Wang Xiaoshuai's latest film "11 Flowers" will debut at the 36th Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 8-18, Sina.com.cn reports.

The film, set in the mid-1970s, is about the consequences which unfold after an 11-year-old boy witnesses a murder. The cast includes Qiao Renliang, Yan Ni, Wang Jingchun and Liu Wenqing.

It was co-funded by Wang and the French government, according to the report.

Wang holds a Chevalier in the French Order of Arts and Letters, which is a top honor given by France's Ministry of Culture to recognize outstanding contributors to the fields of arts and literature.

The director is best known for such films as "Shanghai Dreams", which won the jury prize at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival; and "In Love We Trust", the winner for best script at the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival.

The 36th Toronto International Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in North America, will open with the world premiere of "From the Sky Down", a documentary about Irish rock band U2 directed by Davis Guggenheim.

Wang's "11 Flowers" is one of the festival's Special Presentations.
