According to EntGroup's "China Film Industry 2011", mainland audiences hold more average attitude towards special film formats. 58% of the audience chooses 3D format, while 36% among them chooses both 3D and IMAX format, 22% among them prefers 3D only. Only 9% of the audience prefers IMAX only. This shows that the audience is generally rational with their choices on film formats. They do not chase the trends blindly.

The audience selects sci-fi, action, disaster and fantasy as most suitable genres for 3D films. This shows that the audience on one hand expects stunning visual presentation; they also hope to see new topics and stories.

Sci-fi, animation, comedy and disaster are most favored genres for IMAX formatted films, to meet with higher demand on picture quality for IMAX's giant screen experiences.

Action, comedy, romance and sci-fi are the most favorite movie genres, especially action and comedy. The two genres each gets around 50% support from the audience.
