Staff from Guo Degang's Deyunshe Performance Theater were involved in a scuffle with paparazzi at Beijing's Capital International Airport on January 9. A photographer and driver were injured in the incident, which is now being investigated by the police.

The following day, Guo Degang denied being present when the incident took place and was keen to stress that he and his company would comply fully with the findings of the police investigation.

"The attackers are not my fans, they are temporary members of my staff," he said. He added that his son was also not present at the incident:" My son was at home at the time, he was not involved in any altercation."

He continued: "There is no excuse for such an incident, regardless of the circumstances. Deyunshe will apologize and fully accept the outcome of the police investigation. We'll also fire that temporary worker."

Zhuo Wei, in charge of the team of paparazzi involved in the airport scuffle, commented that both the photographer and driver will undergo a B-ultrasonic examination and CT scan.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Guo Degang was born in Tianjin. He began to learn the art of storytelling, pingshu, at the age of 8. Guo went to Beijing in 1995 and established Deyunshe, a xiangsheng performance theater, in 1996. He started performing in teahouses and eventually achieved nationwide fame.
