More government-funded cultural and artistic troupes in China have embraced market-oriented reform, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

As of late January, a total of 1,367 among the country's 2,102 troupes have completed reform or are undergoing transformation, according to the Cultural Ministry's statement.

That signalled a further step towards completing the market-oriented reform of 2,102 originally government-funded troupes, a goal set by Chinese central authorities in a circular issued in May last year.

Reforming the troupes to improve their competitiveness and offer quality services comes as China promotes cultural industry development and boosts the nation's cultural influence locally and overseas.

China Oriental Performing Arts Group -- one of the troupes -- after transformation into a commercial enterprise two years ago, generated 130 million yuan (20.6 million U.S. dollars) in revenue in 2011.
