The 62nd Berlin Film Festival is now at its midway point, and organizers say the events attendance is the highest it’s ever been. Over a quarter of a million tickets have been sold.
A few films are gaining notice at the festival, including the Chinese epic, White Deer Plain.
White Deer Plain, by Wang Quan'an, is emerging as a front-runner at the festival. The film is set against the backdrop of the bloody upheaval in the early 20th century, and sit among several films this year which focus on revolutions and their consequences.
The sexually explicit new picture is based on Chen Zhongshi's 1992 book of the same name.
It tells the story of three generations of rival clans living in White Deer Plain in Shaanxi Province and a beautiful young woman, who is caught between them as the feudal system begins to give way.
The Finnish movie "Iron Sky," about vengeful Nazis returning to Earth, cost around $10 million to make and most of the funds seem to have come from an online appeal.
Reviews are mixed. The movie is set in 2018, but there is no sign of space colonist Newt Gingrich. However, the U.S. president bears a remarkable resemblance to Sarah Palin.
