Yisushe, the oldest existing opera troupe in China, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding in Xi'an, capital of northwestern Shaanxi Province, this August, the provincial culture department said Thursday.
A series of campaigns, including a forum on the development of Qinqiang Opera, an exhibition of historical photos, and classical repertoire performances, are to be launched during the celebration, said Yong Tao, an organizer of the celebration.
Artists from two other prominent, ancient world theaters -- The Royal Opera House in Britain and the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia -- will also be invited to perform at Yisushe, Yong said.
Established in 1912, the Xi'an Yisushe troupe is the country's oldest operatic society which specializes in the local Qinqiang Opera.
Qinqiang Opera, which thrives in China's northwestern areas of Gansu, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang, was added to the country's list of intangible heritage in 2006.
