The film production team of "Yang Gui Fei" has fired South Korean director Kwak Jae-yong, confirming earlier media speculation about his departure during the filming of the historical drama, Sina Entertainment reports.

In a statement issued today, the production company said Kwak refused to shoot the film according to its requirements which emphasized a traditional Chinese understanding of the Tang Dynasty.

After friendly talks, both sides agreed that Kwak would not direct the film.

The production team also denied the rumors that Kwak left because of a dispute with lead actress Fan Bingbing and that Fan was not an investor of the film, as many previous reports said.

The product team said it had chosen a new director and would announce the person's name soon.

The film, which started shooting in January, is about one the most famous beauties in Chinese history, who was the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang during his later years. American-Chinese actor John Lone takes the role of Emperor Xuanzong, and Singer-actor Wang Leehom stars in the movie as renowned poet Li Bai.
