On the heels of winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sixth Asian Film Awards, director Ann Hui arrived in Suzhou on March 21 to greet her fans at a press conference, Mtime.com reports.
Since its debut on March 8, Hui's latest film "A Simple Life" has become a hit both in Hong Kong and on the mainland, raking in nearly 100 million yuan (US$15.8 million).
"Now I'm in my sixties and not young any more, but I will make more films in the future," Hui said at the press conference in response to a question about whether she was too young for the award. "The award is an encouragement for me."
About the success of "A Simple Life" both with film critics and at the box office, Hui said it was a joyful and relieving experience.
"The pressure is gone," she said. "Finding investment will be predictably much easier than before."
Hui added that she hoped "A Simple Life" could serve as a source of enlightenment and confidence for Chinese art-film directors.
"A Simple Life" has been nominated for eight awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, at the upcoming 31th Hong Kong Films Awards.
"Even one award would be satisfactory," Hui said of the prospect of winning further accolades. "I just don't want to go back home with nothing in my hands."
Hui added that actress Deannie Yip, who stars as the female lead in her film, was under great pressure because everyone wanted her to win the Best Actress Award.
