The producers of "Seediq Bale" have released a promotional trailer packed with grand war scenes prior to the film's scheduled mainland release on May 10, Mtime.com reports.
Produced by famous director John Woo and helmed by Taiwanese director Wei Te-Sheng, the movie recounts the humiliating Treaty of Shimonoseki signed in 1895 in which the Japanese gained control of Taiwan and the Penghu Islands for the next 50 years. The film depicts 300 warriors from original tribes who fought against the Japanese invaders during the colonial period.
The original version of the film released in Taiwan is four-and-a-half hours long. The mainland version, which has been cut by Wei Te-Sheng, only lasts 154 minutes.
Released in 2011 in Taiwan, "Seediq Bale" grossed about 800 million Taiwanese dollars in box office revenue.
The film took home three awards at the 48th Golden Horse Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Film Music.
