Chinese supermodel Du Juan will make her big-screen debut in Peter Chan's upcoming film "American Dreams in China", Sina.com.cn reports.
The film is about three young men who start an English-language training school in China in the 1980s. It is inspired by the legendary New Oriental School.
Du Juan, 30, will play a proud and intimidating Peking University graduate in Beijing whose only goal is to study abroad.
Director Peter Chan said a photo of Du Juan in a fashion magazine caught his attention at first sight. Du has been hailed as China's first internationally recognized supermodel. She was the first Asian model to grace the cover of Vogue Paris, the French edition of Vogue magazine. Style.com previously named her as one of the top ten models to watch for the fall 2006 season.
The film "American Dreams in China" stars actors Huang Xiaoming, Deng Chao and Tong Dawei in the lead roles.
Shooting is currently under way in New York. The film is expected to be released next year.
