A charity movie featuring leukemia patients in China will hit television screens next week.

At a press conference in Beijing on Friday, Lv Changhe, producer of the movie "Blood Link" said he hoped the movie will help to raise public awareness of leukemia and encourage more people to become volunteers to donate stem cells to those in need.

The movie, produced by the China National Culture Art Company and the Red Cross Society of China, tells the moving story of a group of people who try to save a little girl suffering from leukemia. The film illustrates the whole process of donating stem cells and the current situation of the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP).

In China, 1.66 million volunteers have joined the CMDP, but this figure is still not enough when the total size of the population is taken into account, according to a latest report by the Red Cross Society of China.

"I sincerely hope the government and the public realize the urgent need for people to donate stem cells. And it's been proven that the donation method is safe," said Zhao Baige, executive vice president of the Red Cross Society of China.

The film will be released on March 12 and will be broadcast on the movie channel of China Central Television.
