With the passing of Britain's former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, celebrities and media services have been offering their thoughts on the controversial figure.

One such celebrity is Meryl Streep, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the film, "The Iron Lady".

In a statement, Streep said Thatcher was a "pioneer for women in politics" and "a figure of awe for her personal strength and grit."

However, opinion concerning the controversial figure is definitely split.

British MP George Galloway tweeted, "tramp the dirt down," in reference to the lyrics of an anti-Thatcher Elvis Costello song.

News outlet the Daily Telegraph has reported it closed the comments section on their online article reporting Thatcher's death, claiming it was filled with abusive comments.

Margaret Thatcher was 87.
