American action film "White House Down" has opened in the Chinese mainland.
Directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, the movie is about an attack on the White House.
Roland Emmerich is known for sci-fi and disaster movies like "Independence Day", "The Day after Tomorrow" and "2012". But in an interview with Mtime.com, the director says what he is truly proud of is the human side shown in his movies.
As for "White House Down", Emmerich told Mtime.com, "It's a father-daughter story. It's at the center of the story of 'White House Down'. For me it's very interesting to have on one hand war as a machine, and on the other hand the family; how the family holds together in a situation like that."
In the movie, Channing Tatum stars as a Washington policeman who is on a tour in the White House with his young daughter, only to suddenly find himself in an emergency in which he has to save his daughter and the President from a heavily armed group of attackers.
Emmerich spoke highly of Tatum's performance, noting, "He's very accessible. You have never had an actor who is that in control of his body. It's just amazing. He pretty much insisted to do all his own stunts. That's incredible."
The movie also stars Jamie Foxx as the U.S. President, a very different role from the freed slave he portrayed in his previous film "Django Unchained".
Emmerich says Jamie Foxx is an incredible actor and can portray any character. "I met him actually in Louisiana when he was doing 'Django [Unchained]'. He looked frightening to me... he had a beard... I was like, for a moment, like 'Can he do it?' And then he came to the set [of 'White House Down']. He was wearing a suit, and all of a sudden it was a different person," said Emmerich.
