The American film "Captain Phillips" and "The Kiyosu Conference"from Japan were chosen as the opening and closing films of the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival on Tuesday.
The Festival Executive Committee showed the trailers of both movies at the press conference. "Captain Phillips"starring Tom Hanks reflects the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates. While "The Kiyosu Conference" is directed by Koki Mitani, based on the novel of the same name penned by the director himself.
The 26th TIFF will take place on Oct.17-25, 2013 at Roppongi Hills and other venues in Tokyo. Fifteen films from around the world will be selected for screening at the festival. The international Competition Jury will award the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix, Special Jury prize and etc.
To commemorate the start of the next 25 years, TIFF will reorganize its main sections, introducing new sections including Asian Future, Japanese Cinema Splash and World Focus.
The sponsor also introduced a new TIFF logo this year. The new logo combines "Heart" and "Movie" together, which means filmmakers put their hearts into their films.
