'Tiny Times' sequel to hit Chinese screens

"Tiny Times," a film inspired by author-turned-director Guo Jingming's novel of the same name, has raked in over 488 million yuan (about 79 million U.S. dollars) in the Chinese mainland since its debut on June 27, according to figures from China Film News.
Both films were produced and finished simultaneously at a total cost of about 47 million yuan.
"Tiny Times 2.0" picks up where the first film left off. It is expected to extend the "Tiny Times"'s box office success, as well as continue to fuel controversy.
The ostentatious shows of luxury goods and clothing in the first film have been criticized for distorting the values of young audiences, as the target demographic for both the novel and the films are people born after 1980.
Some also expect the domestic film to out-perform sci-fi blockbuster "Pacific Rim," which swallowed near 300 million yuan in the first five days after opening in the Chinese mainland on July 31.
