Music carnival Sonic Shanghai 2013 rock the city on Aug. 17 and 18 with big names like Limp Bizkit and Korn presenting Chinese audiences with the most exciting music today's rock scene has to offer.
The Shanghai carnival lineup included 11 acts, including top U.S. rock band Limp Bizkit, American nu metal band Korn, Taiwan pop singer Mavis Fan, Chinese mainland veteran rock band Black Panther, Chinese pop singer Han Geng and singer-songwriter Li Quan. Taiwan pop singer Aska Yang was the festival's ambassador and performed its theme song entitled "Shine".
Sonic Shanghai will be held in China annually over the next five years as a celebration of youth and urban culture, according to Li Yong, general manager of Shanghai OTV Media Co. Ltd., one of the organizers of Sonic Shanghai 2013. The best artists from the international scene will be invited to join on stage.
Korn and Limp Bizkit's performances sent audiences into a musical frenzy and were undoubtedly the biggest highlights of the evening, with fans screaming, waving, jumping and dancing.
Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst said, "This is my first time playing in China and tonight we want to feel the Chinese fans' enthusiasm. It will be a success no matter what, even if just one fan loves our music."
The band played "Show Me What You Got" and "Hotdog" when they heard the fans' demands, "We just confirmed our setlist 5 minutes before we went on stage, and we played other songs according to audiences' reactions," they stated afterwards.
Sonic Shanghai 2013 is based on the format of Summer Sonic, Japan's biggest and internationally renowned music festival. This year witnessed its first China edition.
