Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng

Veteran rocker Wang Feng openly spoke of his love for actress Zhang Ziyi during his concert in Shanghai on Saturday. His public declaration afterwards received both praise and mock.

The news that Wang Feng, 42, and internationally acclaimed movie star Zhang Ziyi, 34, are secretly in love, has caused nothing short of a sensation.

After weeks of media speculation yet silence from both involved parties, Wang eventually gave in and (shockingly so) gave an 8-minute-long heartfelt declaration of love to Zhang before tens of thousands of fans during his concert where the actress sitting in the front seats.

"I want to make you the happiest woman in the world," Wang said, "and I imagine one day we can be blessed for our sincere love as celebrities without being criticized and vilified by people. I imagine one day we can tell each other 'I love you' without [seeing the] tears in each other's eyes."

After Wang's remarks, he went on to dedicate a song entitled "I Love You So Much" to Zhang. Zhang reportedly wiped away a tear.

The news soon made headlines around China, but -- as has been the case thus far -- many still hold their doubts about the new couple. Several netizens pointed out on social platforms that more or less the same rhetoric and song had been dedicated by Wang to his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend respectively.

When dating rumors of Zhang and Wang surfaced, the latter has just divorced his wife and Zhang had just broken up with her ex-boyfriend, television host Sa Beining. Both Wang and Zhang were subjected to public backlash since both were infamous for their past love complications.

Both managers have declined to comment on Wang's love declaration.

Wang expressed his love to Zhang, saying he wished that one day, instead of wearing masks, they could go shopping and walk down the street hand in hand like ordinary people.

" The people around us will not flash their cameras at us and instead respond to us with a friendly smile," Wang said in a bittersweet voice.
