Angelina Jolie has been recognized by Hollywood film industry for her work with refugees, for advocating for human rights as well as her film career.

The 38-year-old Oscar winner is a special envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and has taken part in more than 40 missions to strife hit areas. This has included a recent visit to those fleeing the conflict in Syria.

In a celebrity-packed room, Jolie was introduced by members of the cast from her directorial debut, "In the land of blood and honey" which takes place during the Balkan War.

The Bosnian and Serbian war survivors thanked her for giving them a chance to express themselves.

Star Wars creator George Lucas handed her the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Actors Angela Lansbury and Steve Martin also received what are dubbed "Honorary Oscars" for their contributions to film at the annual Governors Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
