Two musical idols simultaneously decided to show off their girlfriends yesterday, causing an online frenzy of 50 percent best wishes and 50 percent bromance innuendo.

Chinese-American singer-songwriter Leehom Wang for the first time yesterday morning disclosed that he has a girlfriend on both his Weibo microblog and Facebook, while superstar pianist Li Yundi opted to show off his latest squeeze late last night.

"The past few years your comments on here have often been about 'I hope you find your ‘Forever Love'," Leehom Wang said in his post at 3:00 a.m., "I'm lucky to have met a girl to hold hands with and share my future with. She's not in the entertainment business so you don't know her, but I also don't want to create the opportunity for rumors so... Her name is Lee Jinglei, she's 27 years old and a graduate student at Columbia. Papa & Mama Wang love her and I hope you will too."

The 37-year-old singer also uploaded a photo of him and his girlfriend. The post has been re-tweeted more than 800,000 times and has received more than 400,000 comments thus far on the Weibo platform.

Wang, who has been the topic of gay rumors for years, got the full-on headline treatment and received the best of wishes all day, but many also wondered "what his rumored boyfriend Li Yundi would think?"

Wang’s newsflash unexpectedly turned into an online dramedy at 11:40 p.m. last night, when pianist Li Yundi suddenly posted the photo of a woman, accompanied by the statement this was his girlfriend.

"I'm very happy today; everyone should love and be loved for real! My girl's name is Tian Fei, 25, and she graduated from Columbia University with a major in Mathematics of Finance," Li elaborated, "We met last year; she is very nice. I hope I can go on the journey of my musical dream with you, my fans, and thank you for your support all along the way."

The post was soon re-tweeted 270,000 times, with curious online users instantly realizing both girlfriends come from the same Columbia University. Some joked Li and Wang are in fact lovers, even retrieving a chapter from the classic gay novel "Brokeback Mountain" which sees two men marry their respective fiancées whilst still in love with each other. Some also have their doubts about the whole thing, suspecting it to be a publicity stunt.

As people and media tried to hunt down the idols' girls, one student named Shirley Li was accidentally mistaken as Wang's girlfriend -- who has the same surname.

She angrily posted on Facebook, "True fact: I am not the secret girlfriend of a Taiwanese pop star. But the 300+ Linkedin requests and congratulatory emails received in the last 24 hrs have me wondering how long I can convince Chinese stalker fans worldwide that I am."

Wang and Li had no further comment on the innuendo. The two have in the past both denied they are gay and have repeatedly stated they are just good friends, despite of the lingering doubts in the past.
